China rove out its Long March 5B projectile on Tuesday in expectation of its coming liftoff to put the third and terminal piece of theTiangong space stationin arena . It ’s all very exciting , but an out - of - control condition core faculty will in all probability leave , as was the case on three late function .
The heavy - lift rocket was transport to the pad on Tuesday , carrying a 23 - long ton science lab faculty named Mengtian ( which translates to “ stargaze of paradise ” ) . It took about three hours for the Long March 5B to make the nearly 2 mile ( 3 kilometre ) journey at the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site , according to China National Space Administration ( CNSA ) .
At the stamp pad , the rocket will undergo final stay and fueling in preparation for its launch . The space agency has not confirmed the accurate date for launching , but old statement suggest the rocket will take off on Monday , October 31,according to Space.com .

Mengtian will join its sister faculty Wentian and Tianhe to form the T - shaped structure of China ’s three - faculty space station named Tiangong ( meaning “ heavenly place ” ) . China ’s space agency will habituate the Mengtian lab to conduct various microgravity experiments related to fluid aperient , combustion scientific discipline , and quad technology , accordingto China ’s state - lean Xinhua . Unlike Tianhe , Mengtian does not include living quarters for astronauts .
Tiangong is China ’s reply to the International Space Station and is schedule to be fully construct by the end of the year . The first module of the place post , Tianhe , launched to orbit in April 2021 , while Wentian followed more than a year afterward in July 2022 .
In June , China sent a crew of three astronautsto the blank station where they ’ve spent the past several months overseeing the docking of the two modules , in accession to setting them up and running test . The crew is expected to return to Earth in December , after which dot the Shenzhou-15 crew will take over .

Similar toprevious launches of China ’s Long March 5B , the core phase is expect to execute an uncontrolled reentry through Earth ’s atmosphere upon its payoff . Astronomer Jonathan McDowell from the Harvard - Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics is “ 95 % sure we will be in precisely the same situation again , ” he told Gizmodo in an electronic mail .
China is make Brobdingnagian inroads in place , but its space bureau continues to be heady when it fall to its rocket engine . Rockets are often built with mechanisms to control their reentry to isolated areas , or slow them down as they make their way back to Earth . If China plans on post more of its great - elevator rockets to revolve , it needs to start better equipping them for the ride back .
