Loaded with more book of facts to donjon and Dragons than a Weezer song , Bender ’s Game follows the Planet Express crew as they deal with rising dark subject prices and quondam reliable villain Mom . After Bender go mad from an overdose of D&D he blow the rest of the mould into his fantasy world where Leela is a centaur , Bender is a Knight and Fry is Frydo . It ’s definitely the weakest of the movies so far , but there ’s still a lot to drink to . spoiler ahead , gamers!If you ’re sick of larger-than-life fantasy , this is n’t the Futurama videodisc for you . After bring out Mom ’s evil nibbler crap mill that is enslave Nibblonians for their dark topic doo - doo to execute the world space ships , the work party is beat battle Mom ’s evil henchmen . Meanwhile Bender has become taken up with his new sense of imagination , thanks to D&D , but it make him to fall away out of reality and survive in his own fantasy land . Eventually he and the crew embark on a Lord Of the Rings quest . It ’s unfortunate that they decided to spoof LOTR as it ’s been out long enough that many of the jokes felt a picayune old hat . In fact many of the real fantasy jokes strike down pretty flat . That being said , all of the “ side jokes ” were deserving the many Gollum quips . I was in stitch when Rosie from the Jetsons present up in Bender ’s robot therapy for the mentally insane bots , and pass on a tan about how she had to kill “ the dog and the son Elroy ” because they were dirty .
So while the teetotal brainpower of Futurama was present , I wished they had spend it having fun with a different fantasy national matter . But I imagine any apology to get Centaurus Leela to make out with fish nymph Amy .
The special feature film were received fare but with one exceptional note . The executive producer all gathered in author Eric Kaplan ’s childhood basement to let the cat out of the bag about why D&D was important to them and repoint out past D&D reference from the Futurama series . This feature was in reality quite endearing especially when they point out the rust monster from a preceding episode below and how one of their old dungeon had a rust colossus in one room and a dog that would bite you in the other .
Overall Bender ’s Game is not my favorite of the Futurama DVDs but the humor is still there . If you could make it though a tidy sum of the overdone fantasy joke and withstand the terrible Morks ( actually funny Robin Williams poke ) then you ’ll be start some quality Futurama humor . Just put your finger in your ears and hum when they start to mix in Star Wars . Are n’t we done with the “ I am your father ” jokes yet ?
