By the terminal of 2010 , this 105,000 square foot urban center - within - a - urban center will be a major landmark in Chengdu , China . Since this special part of Chengdu does n’t get that much sun , the edifice employ sliced geometry that makes it porous to daylight exposure — hence the name of the project , Sliced Porosity Block . The ponds , which recycle rainwater cool by lilypads , double as skylights to the shopping center , and diagonal moving stairway placed in seemingly random locus create the imprint of a construction within a building . The temperature in the building complex is regulated geo - thermally . you could see a closeup of one of the eco - tubes feeding the metropolis below .
The mega - complex will contain offices , apartment , store , restaurants , cafes , poet - animate ponds , a Rockefeller Center - esque overt patio , and a hotel , and it ’s designed by Steven Holl Architects , the firm responsible for anothersimilarly - constructed mega complexin the state opening this class .
