Gascón, 52, is skipping the 2025Critics Choice Awardsceremony to be held Friday, Feb. 7 in Los Angeles, reportsDeadlineandVariety. The Spanish actress is also not expected at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday, Feb. 8, where she was scheduled to present, according to the outlets.
Gascón was expected to attend the Critics Choice Awards — whereEmilia Pérezreceived 10 nominations in total — alongside costarZoe Saldaña. The two are nominated for in the lead and supporting categories, respectively, for their performances in the Jacques Audiard-directed movie musical about a Mexican drug cartel leader who transitions into a woman.

Gascón’s absence at this year’s Critics Choice Awards will likely set the tone for the remaining awards shows this year. She is alsonominatedfor her performance at theScreen Actors Guild Awardson Feb. 23 on top of herhistoric Academy Award recognitionas the first openly transgender actor nominated.

Despite Gascón’s snowballing controversies, the actress toldCNN en Españolduring an interview that aired Sunday, Feb. 2 that she would not consider renouncing her Oscar nomination.
“I cannot step down from an Oscar nomination because I have not committed any crime, nor have I harmed anyone,” she said in that interview, perCNN. “I am neither racist nor anything that all these people have tried to make others believe I am.”
Gascón is nominated in the Best Actress Oscar category alongsideWicked’sCynthia Erivo,AnorastarMikey Madison,The Substance’sDemi MooreandI’m Still HerestarFernanda Torres.
Emilia Pérez, now streaming on Netflix, is up for 13 Oscars total (including Best Picture), making it the most-nominated film of the year ahead of the March 2 ceremony.
