Barrino’s look didn’t end with her unique jewelry placement: the Grammy-winner wore a sheer black dress from designer Cong Tri. The floor-length gown featured a slit skirt and a draped neckline, which she paired with matching gloves and a black clutch. She completed her ensemble with strappy black heels.

After she wowed on the carpet, Barrino headed inside, where she joinedOprah Winfreyin paying tribute toTina Turner, who died in May 2023. The singer wore a gold outfit with oversized shoulder pads and a sparkly fringe that moved with Barrino as she gave an energetic performance of Turner’s hit song “Proud Mary.”

Barrino’s powerful tribute to Turner ended the In Memoriam segment on a high note, making it a true celebration of the lives lost in the music industry over the last year.

TheAmerican Idolalum recently opened up to PEOPLE about howshe “lost everything"after winning the music competition series in 2004. Ultimately, Barrino said that her struggles were “necessary.”

“I’m grateful for it. … If I did not go through that, I wouldn’t be the woman that I am today,” says the singer, who wasnominatedfor a Golden Globe in January for her role as Celie inThe Color Purple.
