What Is It?
A 14.4MP power point - and - shoot . Freeze - trial impression , junk - validation , waterproof to 33 foot , and drop - proof to 6.6 feet .
Who’s it For?
Outdoors type who do n’t desire to care about ruining a television camera all the time .
Design
well-favored . substantial . stocky , but pocketable . A door with two locks hides the ports , card , and battery .
Using It
Photos photograph promptly . Adjustments are cumbersome .
The Best Part
Lived up to its water system - proofiness ! Two surf sessions , engrossment in the Pacific — come out alright .
Tragic Flaw
It ’s all-fired near impossible to take a nice photo with this matter . terrible in low light . Could n’t focus in daylight . pic are washed out , colors are bland , dynamic orbit is terrible , and there ’s noise everywhere . See for yourself .
This Is Weird…
build - in Wi - Fi , a standard characteristic , is a pain to set up , the Io app just form , and the Android app does n’t sour at all . It ca n’t conserve a Wi - Fi connection for more than a few minutes , so you always have to go under it up again .
Test Notes
Of all therugged cameras quiz this year , this is the only one that has failed the controlled drop trial . After two drops ( one on its bottom , one on its back ) from a height of five feet onto a tile floor , the zoom mechanism fail . A “ Zoom error ” displays on the screen and no picture can be taken . Keep in mind it ’s supposed to survive free fall from 6.6 feet .
You have to press the power button longer than you ’d anticipate to turn it on , which can make you lack a exposure .
The television record button is recessed into the television camera body , make it difficult to find and press with a stale thumb .

The zoom cradle is set in such a elbow room that it ’s pretty hard to use .
Videos also miss detail and struggle with dynamic range . The mike is tender , but in some cases , it ’s too sensitive .
The carte system is a mess . Features are n’t laid out intuitively or in the order in which you would want them most .

The HDR modality helped with the dynamical range problems a short bit , but then picture take longer to work on .
The dual - latching threshold system is very honorable . The transposition , clearly labeled 1 and 2 are blind drunk and heavy to give , but that ’s kind of the point .
It does an okay job of stitching together panoramic exposure on the tent-fly , and it ’s fast , but there is periodic double in the images , and sometimes Brobdingnagian breaks in dividing line .

The shutter trigger needs a petty more resistance . When you ’re trying to half - crush it to adjust the focus , you finish up circumstantially shooting a slew of the time .
The lens system is in the upper left wing of the television camera , which will help keep your fingers out of the elbow room ( if you ’re properly - handed ) .
The amount of racket in daylight shots is disgraceful .
