I hate political satires . I detest satire on current event . Last Nox ’s Futurama , entitled Decision 3012 , was both . And yet , it was incredibly great . It includes everything from Nixon hamming it up to a treatise on the time travel paradox in the Terminator moving picture — but the substantial reason to watch out is the endless sight gags .
It ’s an election class in the public of Futurama , and so Leela — who tried to block Nixon ’s election in the first series — gets another shot at knocking Tricky Dick out of office . She ’s especially fired up when she listen that he ’ll build up a Dyson Sphere Fence across the southerly one-half of the solar system to keep out loud alien labor movement and “ use the wretched as a cheap source of teeth for aquarium gravel . ” ( Have I mentioned I love Futurama ’s Nixon ? Because I do . ) She backs the intelligent and reasonable opposition prospect ; Senator Chris Zaxxar Travers . His queer name ease up Nixon a chance to question his Earth citizenship , and so Leela run to find his long - form Earth Certificate .
Sounds entirely too on - the - nose , but the episode goes to a lot of fun place with it , and if you ’re a liberal , this sequence is as gratifying to the ego as an instalment of the West Wing . The actual stand - out throughout the episode is the round-the-clock absurdist gags that have characterized Futurama from the start . The good part of the serial are commonly those rapid - fire rail line that the characters toss out so quickly and casually that you do n’t even know what they ’ve said until subsequently . This episode has Ruth Bader Ginsburg saying “ You Ruth Bader believe it ! ” It feature a letter writer from “ Fox Quote Unquote News . ” It has Leela , call for where her campaigner was born , and upon him saying Kenya , call out sky-high , “ rocker of mankind ! ”
But like we said , the literal stand - out of this episode is the sight laugh . Decision 3012 is for the people who have Tivo , and the longanimity to pause every min or so . Every political rally has comic signs at the locus . Every convention has delegate from places like Panem , Skyrim , and Kardashistan . And when the work party travels to Kenya , to find the Earth Certificate , suddenly we get into a crowd of wordless jape involving African animate being that are straight out of Far Side cartoons . I believe the one show does n’t give too much off — but on covert it ’s incredible , and unexpected , and it ’s the cause why it ’s never a good approximation to look away from the screen during Futurama . Like the last election sequence , this is an rank classic . Do n’t miss it .
