Google has announced Calico , a new fellowship that will centre on wellness and well - being . But its ultimate purpose is to radically lead the human lifetime . As TIME put it , “ That would be unhinged — if it were n’t Google . ”
By set up Calico , Google CEO Larry Page skip to take on some of health maintenance ’s most pressing problems . And by virtue of doing so , the company hopes to be a major player — if not the major player — in the burgeoning efforts to slow down , or even halt , the aging operation in human being .

And now Google is on circuit board . Which is unbelieveable . Not only will this hike R&D into life extension research , it also legitimatise it .
“ sickness and aging affect all our mob , ” observe Page through anofficial release . “ With some longer term , moonshot thinking around health care and biotechnology , I believe we can improve millions of life . ”

“ I ’ve pay much of my life to science and technology , with the destination of meliorate human health , ” noted Levinson . “ Larry ’s focusing on outsized improvements has cheer me , and I ’m tremendously aroused about what ’s next . ”
Outsized improvements is good ; Google advance employee to engage in what it call “ 10x think ” — a manner of motivate them to make inventions which are better than anything that already exists by at least an order of magnitude .

The September 30 topic of TIME will profile Page and his decision to launch Calico . From the clip ’s preview article :
Based in the Bay Area , not far from Google ’s military headquarters , Calico will be making long - term bets than most health care business firm . “ In some industries , it demand ten or 20 years to go from an idea to something being literal . Healthcare is for sure one of those areas , ” said Page . “ perhaps we should shoot for the thing that are really , really important so ten or 20 year from now we have those things done . ”
[ … ]

Google is keep its exact plan close to the waistcoat . But it is probable to use its data point - processing might to shed new light on age - touch on maladies . Sources tightlipped to the project suggest Calico will start with a small number of employee and focus initially on researching novel applied science .
That approach may soften unlikely conclusions . “ Are people really focused on the right-hand thing ? One of the thing I thought was amazing is that if you work out Crab , you ’d add about three geezerhood to people ’s average lifespan expectancy , ” Page articulate . “ We think of work cancer as this huge thing that ’ll completely modify the Earth . But when you really take a step back and look at it , yeah , there are many , many tragic cases of malignant neoplastic disease , and it ’s very , very lamentable , but in the aggregate , it ’s not as big an advance as you might retrieve . ”
