Now , 100 of thousands of tweetsand at leastone dumb joke bloglater , we have the answer to the “ carp ” mystery story : It ’s a joke advertizing made by a college kid who was just hold some sport .
The whole thing began around 8:30 pm ET on Friday evening when substance abuser @dm4uz3tweetedthe word “ carp ” along witha pic of a bewilder - looking carp held in a fisherman ’s manus . @dm4uz3 further the tweet , which effectively turned it into an ad , causing the tweet to show up with a release that says “ Tweet # carp . ” ( The ad does n’t show up unless you view it on Twitter.com or within the Twitter app . )

The “ Tweet # carp ” command prompt was simply too scrumptiously weird to resist . @dm4uz3 said in a Twitter DM on Saturday that they paid 5 euro to encourage the tweet , but that doing so “ essentially did nothing . ” In a screenshot of the original tweet ’s analytics partake in with Gizmodo , fewer than 4,200 mental picture out of the more than 375,000 impressions the tweet received came as a result of that 5 euro furtherance . The rest were all organic .

Then came the “ carp ” tweet , which blew up so far and across-the-board that it “ was just harebrained , ” @dm4uz3 pronounce .
