Zachery Ty Bryanwill be serving jail time after pleading guilty to felony assault.
Bryan, best known for his role onHome Improvement, appeared in court in Oregon on Wednesday afternoon to answer for his fourth-degree felony assault, third-degree robbery and harassment charges following hisJuly 28 arrest.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Lane County’s chief deputy district attorney, Chris Parosa, confirmed that the former child actor, 42, “pled guilty to felony assault in the fourth degree constituting domestic violence” in his court appearance.
According to Parosa, Bryan’s second count has been dismissed as a term of a “negotiated resolution.” Instead of facing 19-20 months of jail time, he received a “downward dispositional departure to 36 months of supervised probation, 7 days jail, standard domestic violence conditions, no contact with the victim without the probation officer’s approval," Parosa said,

He will also be required to seek treatment for his “alcohol/substance abuse issues” and refrain from using “alcohol or drugs," per Parosa.
If the television personality were to violate any terms of his deal, he will be subject to serving the 19-20 months of prison time the court suspended.
Bryan’s attorney, John Kolego of Kolego & Kraushaar, did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. In a statement toThe Hollywood Reporter, Kolego said: “Mr. Bryan decided to accept this resolution and admit that he recklessly caused physical injury to his domestic partner to avoid further trauma to his family so they could move on and heal.”
Back in July, the Eugene Police Departmentissued a statement to PEOPLEregarding Bryan’s arrest.
“At around 6:00 p.m. on July 28, Eugene Police received report of a physical dispute between a male and adult female at a north Eugene residence,” the statement read. “The dispute was reported to have occurred several hours prior and the suspect, identified as Zachery Ty Bryan, age 41, of Laguna Beach, California, had left the location.”
“Eugene Police subsequently contacted Bryan in the area. Bryan was lodged at Lane County Jail on a charge of Assault in the Fourth Degree APA (Abuse Prevention Act),” it concluded.
“Trauma can bring struggles in many shapes and forms,” she toldUs Weeklyat the time. “It’s a horrible situation that’s going to be spun in so many ways. I’ve learned firsthand the truth will never align with what’s been put out there."
Cartwright — who shares three children with the actor — continued, “I ask everyone to please be respectful of our privacy for the sake of the children and our families so the healing process can begin.”

Bryan wasreleased from custody a week later. At the time, his lawyer told PEOPLE in a statement: “Presumption of innocence is extremely important and people should withhold judgement until they see what the actual facts are.”

Bryan confirmed his 2020 arrest had to do with an altercation with Cartwright while speaking toThe Hollywood Reporter. TheHome Improvementalum said the 2020 event “got so blown out of proportion.”
“We didn’t even really get that physical. We got really loud. We were screaming and because we were in a townhome that had [thin walls], everybody could hear,” he said.
Referring to his previous marriage to Carly Matros, he continued, “Johnnie was, at the time, just really upset about my situation. At the end of the day, [the police] throw a bunch of counts at you because they ultimately want you to plead to something. I could’ve fought it … but that’s more stress and drama. I got two misdemeanors and called it a day.”
