The minimal requirement for Apple ’s osmium 10 Leopard are an 866Mhz G4 CPU and 512 MB of Aries . I hap to have an aging but still squeamish 1Ghz Powerbook with 768 Bachelor of Medicine of RAM . Loading Leopard on it should tell us just how exact those minimal specs are .
Tiger : 40 second to login screen and 9 moment to shut down .
Leopard Install : 1 time of day , 14 minutes , 23 seconds ( about 2x what it was on my Macbook Pro , but short compared to the 3 + hours it initially report ) .
Leopard : 50 sec to login silver screen and 11 seconds to shut down .
Basic use : Using Cover Flow with Safari , iChat , and iTunes open and it ’s jerky . ( Quick Look work well , though . )
That ’s not speculative at all , but of course we have to expect for more thorough testing to force any literal conclusion . I ’d say you ’re safe if you ’ve get an older macintosh . RAM will help , but if you ’re counting the iLife and Leopard cost , you might just want to put that ~$200 towards a young Mac . Just say .
