Professional adventurer Cedar Wright and Alex Honnold are customary to expecting the unexpected . The duad is known for toilsome and dangerous adventures , which involve wheel rides into the middle of nowhere and mount some of the most daunting rock geological formation in America . But on a late adventure , a nearly 800 mile biking and climb dangerous undertaking called “ Sufferfest 2 , ” the explorers stumbled upon something sincerely unexpected : a petite puppy , lost in the midsection of the desert .
“ I just block off on my bike randomly in the desert and all of a sudden I discover this whimpering sound and at first I ca n’t figure out what it is and then I wait and there ’s this little puppy curve up in an one-time tire concealment from the current of air . I quickly realized that he had been abandoned,”Wright toldNational Geographic .
The couple immediately adopted the tiny dog , naming him “ Sufferpup ” after their a la mode journey . Then , they harbour the shivering , dehydrated puppy back to wellness , feeding him string cheese and building a lilliputian bed for him in an empty beer box . Sufferpup end up accompanying them on the eternal rest of their adventures before finding a permanent home in Boulder , Colorado .

And though the explorers saved Sufferpup ’s life , the puppy was n’t the only one who get something out of the novel friendship . Wright explain , “ For me , it was like ‘ thank goodness for Sufferpup , ’ because when you ’re just push yourself to your absolute limit , wheel further than you require to , go up more than you really require to , it ’s really heartening at the remainder of the twenty-four hours to come down and have this adorable little puppy to cuddle with . Without Sufferpup I do n’t fuck if we would have made it . ”
