Yesterday we brought you therather odd newsthat hacking chemical group Anonymous retrieve NASA was going to announce   they ’d found level-headed foreign life .

Anyone with an ounce of vulgar sense hopefully quickly realized there was nothing to this story . And mention , itprobably wasn’teven the “ prescribed ” Anonymous group , if there is such a thing . But for good bill , NASA has come out and expose it anyway .

“ perverse to some report , there ’s no pending announcement from NASA regarding extraterrestrial life , ” Thomas Zurbuchen , Associate Administrator for NASA ’s Science Mission Directorate , said on Twitter .

“ Are we alone in the universe ? While we do not know yet , we have commission moving onward that may help answer that fundamental question , ” he added in another tweet .

Of course , if you ’re one to trust exotic conspiracy theory , you ’re in all probability not go to consider this affirmation from Zurbuchen . So take our parole for it that this is all just some uncanny bosh distribute by some guy or girl claiming to be part of Anonymous .

Zurbuchen is proper , though . Whether we ’re alone in the existence is still an undetermined question . But we ’re gettingcloser to answer it . In our own Solar System , we ’ve found a few shoes – oceans under the airfoil ofEuropaandEnceladus , for instance – that might be good places for microbial liveliness .

Elsewhere , we ’re findingmore and more planetsthat could be habitable . In the coming class , we ’re cash in one’s chips to be able-bodied to read the atmospheres of some of these planets , and hopefully recover out if they have any biosignatures .

And there are also several searches underway for sound alien life . The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence ( SETI ) has beenlooking for signalsfor decades . More recently , theBreakthrough Listenproject – funded by Russian billionaire Yuri Milner – has also joined the hunt .

The fact is , though , that we simply have n’t found anything yet . There ’s no NASA - funded project looking for intelligent life , so if we did stumble across a signal , it would be one of the two aforementioned private endeavors .

That we have n’t found any lifetime is a bit of a plight , cognise as the Fermi Paradox . planet seem to be passably abundant in the existence , so why have n’t we found any other aliveness yet ? The answer is either we ’re alone , or we have n’t looked intemperately enough yet .

No intelligent aliens are going to be making their way undetected into the Solar System anytime soon , though . If an foreign ship does make it on our doorstop , we ’ll likely know about it . For now , we ’re alone – and that ’s kind of terrifying in its own right .
